I do have a "space weather" gadget that I have on my ham radio blog
at kd5col.us that reports the current conditions and HF/VHF band openings/propogation.
My local aurora reporter is a radio tuned to a fairly weak FM-station,
playing in the background. When the signal starts to hiss, it's time to
turn on the ham vhf station.
I don't think you can use that method if the FM-station is digital.
I know it's coming in through the antenna. I wasn't able to do it
this weekend but definitely am going on a QRM hunt soon. ;)
